I'm not one of those people who bonded with her kids in utero. While I was supposed to be reading to my stomach, I was guzzling chocolate milkshakes and pudding by the gallon. After my daughter was born, for a couple of days, I kept waiting for that magical powerful adoring mommy-love to overwhelm me. You know the kind you hear about, where new mothers just glow with love for their precious child. They think their child is the most beautiful thing ever. Nope, not for me. I didn't actually feel like a mom until I was going out to lunch with my mom, I got out of the car and started walking towards the restaurant. My mother called out my name, made a little gesture to the car, which instantly reminded me that I'd LEFT my daughter sleeping in the backseat. GAAAHH! My lizard brain screamed at me, 'You are a mother now! You have a child! I don't care how tired or busy or preoccupied you are, your baby comes first!' I've been much better since then. Promise.
