20 year HS Class Reunion in June - HELP!
Mon, 01-24-2005 - 2:47pm

Ok yes I am getting old, no cracks there from some of you "young 'un's" in the crowd. But I am feeling pressure and lots of it. I have been divorced now for almost a year so let's cut to the chase, I want to look good for many reasons. It will be in Houston, TX in June so it will be warm. Here are the below functions and what I was thinking of wearing, any opinions would be helpful. Note that I am 5'9", blonde, 130#, and my best feature might be my legs and breasts, worst is my square and flat butt. :(

Friday Night Happy Hour @ Local Upscale Piano/Martini Bar:

Clothes ideas: Nice black dress pants with tall black 4" thin strappy sandals. Nice dress fitted shirt with 3/4 sleeves for a tailored look.

Concerns: Will my square hips and flat butt be shown off too much here?

Saturday Night Reunion at Country Club, attire is dressy:

Clothes ideas: A couple, see below.

a. Pencil skirt, strappy black thin and tall heels (different from Friday), button down shirt under a light Summer jacket

b. Black simple yet elegant dress with spaghetti straps and hem just at the knee with a slight flare in the skirt with same strappy evening heels.

Help me please!

No age comments here, my last reunion was my 30th!

I agree, the slacks and blouse sound great for Friday night, elegant yet comfortable. I'd go with the dress for the dinner Saturday. I think dresses are more dressy than a skirt, add a light jacket or stole in case it gets cool and you should be set. Have a great time!

THANKS ALL! Very nice to speak with you in this round-a-bout sort of way. I think you all helped quite a bit, you affirmed I am on the right track Friday night and Saturday I will go with the dress then. Now it is time to work off all that Holiday Chocolate so I don't disgust anyone with flabby arms in that dress! :) You guys are the best!!!

Nothing wrong with wanting to look fabulous! I think though you should go with a pretty dress versus pants. You'll feel much sexier - the key is finding the right one. I really like Susana Monaco's basic tube dress, which is fitted at top but then just graces your body going down so it's not at all clingy or tight - very flattering, and hides flaws well if you have any. It's simple so you can take it any direction you want with regard to your look - big, bold jewelry, metallic accessories, etc. If you want something breezier, BCBG makes great dresses at very fair prices. I think the Susana Monaco would work great for either first night or second, but the BCBG would be better for the second night.

Or, you could do say a wide leg dress pant with a silky camisole for the first night, the dress for the second. You don't have to show a ton of skin or be skimpy - just a little. I think that'll be the key.

All your choices sound good. I'm your age so can relate to your thinking. Too much black though in your choices, maybe consider a different option for the Friday night happy hour.
A sharp pair of jeans with belt, nice heels, high collared white blouse with some interesting jewerly. Finish it off with a blazer or cashmere sweater wrapped around the shoulders.
A pencil skirt would work nicely here as well, anything that accents your body, thin waist and legs. High heels, love them, own tons of them. At 5'9", 4" heels, not needed, would go with a lower heel.
The pressure you speak of, I hope it's not bigger than the issue at hand. I'm sure you will look great in anything you choose to wear. Good luck. mj

I like all of the suggestions. No honey, you are not getting old. I will have my 20th reunion in three years, also.

For friday, go with a nice pair of jeans, a nice top, and heels. You will look great! For Saturday, the pencil skirt or black dress would be perfect! And since your legs are one of your best features, consider a short length, a few inches above the knee.
Have fun, and do let us know.
