Black Tie Optional Wedding, what to wear

I am going to a black tie optional wedding for a friend of mine in a few weeks. Most wedding's I have been to I've done the usual 'little black dress' option for my attire. This wedding is black tie optional, and I was wondering what I should plan on wearing instead this time. My boyfriend has his own tuxedo, so he will be wearing that, however I wanted to make sure I was dressed appropriately for the occasion. What is the usual expectations for this type of event? Most ideas i've found online have been pretty vague. Any suggestions?

Hi Laura! Greetings from the western Main Line. :)

You're right: "black tie optional" sounds a little open-ended. In this case I would probably follow the lead of your BF; since he expects to wear a tux, then similar formal attire (e.g. the proverbial little black dress or a similar concept) would probably be the best option. Better to risk being a little overdressed at a wedding - no one would ever hold that against you! :)

Have a great time and let us know how it goes.

I agree, follow the lead of you BF, you definitely don't want him looking better...always dress to impress if that's what your man is doing.
