I have heard different statements about that issue and I alwaysn get confused and never know what is the real deal and what is the real truth.

I have heard that women with fair skin (light) should not wear pastel or clear colors such as pink, light blue, acqua, light yellow, those varieties of colors, because since they are pale colors, the skin will look even lighter and it wont contrast. Instead women with pale skin or fair should wear strong colors, , like black, red, navy, even beige, bric, wine color, burgundy, that way it stands out your skin. The contrary happens with black ladies, they should wear pale clothes and not dark colors.

Another thing Im always confused, I have heard that light colors, like white, light yellow, and other light colors does not suit to those overweight ladies or fat ladies, because the clear color makes you look fatter, instead of using dark colors. But here we go again with the firs thing I said, black ladies not dark colors and fair skin ladies not clear colors.

So how can a ladie find the pefect color for her skin and at the same time that it suits good in her body.

I also have heard those who dont care about colors or skin tone is that a woman should wear whatever feels comfortable regarldless of the color and the skin tone.

But I believe that not always buying comfortable clothes makes you look good. Sometimes colors is very important. There are colors that suit ok to some ladies and there are other colors that does not suit.

That is whay Im always confused in what to buy at the time I have to buy clothes. I would like to look sexy and ok with the colors that really suit me and my body.

I have green eyes, fair skin, light brown hair. I have always heard that the colors that suits me better are the dark ones also orange?, because my eyes stand out and my skin tone wont look so pale if I use pale colors.

What is the real deal here how can I know for sure?

Well I have light skin & I've learned thru trial & error that pale pinks, blues don't look good though yellows look fine.

I don't think its true that paler/fairer skin tones shouldn't wear light colors etc. But it does depend on your skin tone, for example some pale people have yellowy undertones, some have bluish, some have more of a pinkish undertone. For darker skin, could be similar, some are more yellow, some are more olive, etc. So I don't think it can be paired down to just pale or dark skin tone. There used to be a book called "Color Me Beautiful" that dealt with the exact issues you are frustrated by (trying to find out which color looks good on you). This book was very popular at one time and they even used to have parties for it and such, but I am sure the techniqe can be done at home...many people still swear by this book today. I just found out about it by my hairdresser who is very much into todays trends as well and she says there is a lot of truth to this book.

But if I cannot have the book, is there a way a person really knows about this issue?

My skin is light not yellowish tone, like neutral.

Thanks. No I have never been color analyzed before. I mean when I have worn red, blue, burgundy, beige, those kind of colors, some (not all) people have told me they look good on me because they stand out my eyes and because of my skin tone. But the cool light colors some say they dont look ok, but I have seen ladies with fair skin wearing pink, light blue and they look ok. With grey I have my doubts but I do have grey clothes

I hate purple or green color, that is for sure, I dont like those colors at all, in fact I dont have anything purple in my closet and neither green.

Hi Maru!

Those are general guidelines and they certainly aren't hard-and-fast rules.

Hi there! I am a fashion designer (and new to this board) and the rule is there are no rules. If you feel good in what you're wearing, you'll look good. I'm sure you've heard that before but that's the truth. When you wear something you love, you exude energy. You feel good and people can see that. Some silhouettes may look better on you than others but with colors, you can always make it work. Wear what makes you happy.

hello.
i am faced with a problem similar to yours every day. i am fat, but im copper skinned( in asian).dark coulors make me look darker, but thinner.
i opt for dark bright colours which looks good on all.
i also have huge bum. so i wear dark coloured pants and skirts, and top it with bright tops or sweater. i dont wear t-shirts, as my boobs are also big, and a bit shaggy. i opt for well cut shirts. there are lots of shades to a colour.try thh darker shades, which are also bright. u could try rust, or brick orange.
hope this could help u.
btw- one thing i have fund out is, if i think i look good, or sexy, i usually give a kind of vibe to people and end up looking good.(no matter what colour or size im wearing.)
