Dress for my body type

Hi! I'm 51 years young....:smileywink: and have a wedding to go to in a few weeks. I've been searching for a dress. Problem is nothing I put on looks good...to me. I have a Pear shape. I'm 5'2" and 135 lbs. Not sure what style to avoid/wear? Any suggestions? Would a long dress make me look shorter? I can't wear very high heels. A wedge is about it. Its not a formal wedding....and its outside in the South.

I do NOT wear dresses but really want to. I never have an occasion to wear one.

ANY help would be appreciated...I'm getting down to the wire here!

Hi, and don't feel bad, a lot of us don't like how something looks on us. A suggestion is to go with a friend who is going to be honest about how something looks. Now for length... I talked to my SIL who is about your height. She recommends knee or tea length so you don't look shorter. She is also pear shaped, so I trust her judgement. I would go with an Aline or moderately full skirt.

Have a great time, and let us know what you find.

Thanks! I live in a small town so choice is limited. I had thought of tea length also! Since the wedding is outside and at 2pm and very casual, quite a few are wearing dressy capris with a dressy top. That might have to be my option as I couldn't find a dress the other day. Thanks again!

Hi, weddings are such special occasions so I'm sure you must be excited about it. To your question, as you are a petite, you should avoid long/maxi dresses and try to wear shoes with 1-2 inches (wedges are fine!) to look taller if you can't wear very high heels. Wearing a monochromatic outfit, specially in a dark tone, gives you an extra "stretching effect". As you have a pear shape, try to draw attention to your upper body by wearing lace details, frills or an extravagant necklace. A V-neckline or off the shoulders blouse/dress is always a good bet too.
Hope this piece of advice helps you. Have fun at the wedding! And visit my blog if you want some more style tips.
