Hello and new here!

Hello, I'm new to this board, but not to iVillage. Most recently I've spent a lot of time on the job seekers support board, but as I have a job offer on the table I thought I should find boards that related to other areas I know I need work on.

Fashion has never been my thing, and as a mom of 3 married to a car guy, and coming from a car family, sweat pants and jeans have always been my thing. Not to mention that my workplaces over the past 11 years have been home, lumber company, pet food company, and coffee roaster, even my work wardrobe was pretty lax.

Now enter this current job search,m after about a month of looking in my area I realized I could make almost double if I went into NYC, my husband commutes daily, maybe I should consider it. So I realized I DO NOT HAVE THE WARDROBE FOR NYC. I've spent about $100 on Ebay some gently used, most new with tags, and stuff that would retail for close to $500. I also spent a lot of time, when I had interviews in the city watching other women , and seeing what they wear. Now with all that it's still hard I look in the closet and I'm afraid of being too bright or looking too sexy or showing a little too much of my not so flat tummy under my clothes.

How do you just grab an outfit and OWN it? I've actually got my 11yo DD helping me, she picks some nice stuff, and she always looks very fashion savvy! But I feel awkward out of jeans and a sweat-shirt. How do you handle it?

Hi Christine, welcome to the board. I'm sure you will get more suggestions ... mine is to try getting used to not wearing jeans or sweats. Wear dress pants during the day, with a nice top. One you would wear to work, as long as you aren't going to get grubby doing something.

Hi Christine and welcome!

It can seem a little overwhelming having to make such a broad jump in clothing styles. My recommendation is to not try to make
