Anyone have any tips on what to wear to an interview at a fashion retailer for a customer service or assistant manager position like with ann taylor or banana republic? Normally I would wear black pinstripe pants, heels, and a cute blouse with hair down but neat. It is 85 degrees outside right now though and my normal interview attire seems inappropriate. What do you guys think? I want to say professional, but not too stuffy and want to give the impression of creativity. What kind of accessories, clothes, hair would you envision for an interview in August or July in California?

I would still do a suit, maybe a skirt suit with a sleeves shirt or camisol. Also pin your hair up, possibly with ringlets and a few stings hanging down. Accessories - Simple hoops small to medium and a nice simple necklace but this may depend on the neckline of the shirt. Necklaces are really hard to determine without comparing, but that is all no bracelets or anything like that and only 1 necklace. Shoes should be either a flat heel or no higher than two inches.

Sorry, I was raised with an image consultant and stayed in women stores everyday. And now I am a manager, so I get to see both sides.

I agree with avvance, dress up some, but don't go overboard. I was raised old school, you always wore a dress, hose and heels for an interview, even for the local fast food.

Thanks for the help. What color suit would you recommend in the middle of summer? What type/colo bag and shoes. Also, a cami was suggested under the suit and most camis I see have lace at the top the same color as the cami. Is that ok or is it too sexy?

As long as the suit is buttoned lace at the top of the cami is okay, as long as it is tasteful. Considering that you said it was an Anne Klein store or something like it??? I would recommend a navy suit, it doesn't matter whether it is summer or winter, navy or grey(heather grey) I think is always a nice choice.

Whatever you do don't do black shoes!!!!!!! try to find stockings that matches the color of your skin and then where navy shoes that match the suit, if you wear grey then black shoes may be okay, however I don't like it but I know grey shoes are not common. Also, you purse should match your shoes, but if you can't go with a medium brown for navy or a black purse with grey.
