Prints vs Solids

Hi,
When I match up my outfits, I only stick with what I know but I want to expand my options a little more when it comes to prints and solids. I usually either get a handbag that is printed and then I will wear solid clothing pieces. Or I will get a solid color handbag and wear a printed blouse with a solid color bottom.
How does putting print on print work? Or does it?
Also, back to fabrics, how do you know what fabrics can coordinate with each other? For example: Can I put a tweed pant with a cotton blouse? Or how about a sick blouse with a cotton skirt? Can I get the rule of coordinating fabrics?
Thanks,
Crystal
I'm not good at mixing and matching patterns myself, so I tend to look to these basic rules as a kind of guideline, when I feel adverturous.
HI,
Those are great basic rules. What about color, then. How do you know what color looks great with what color, when it comes to prints? I guess I can just stick with a simpler outfit when it comes to matching. one printed piece, and the rest solid.
You are great at advice, thank you. Do you own a business in fashion like Image Consulting?

Hi Crystal!
I'm a big fan of prints. If I wear a printed top, my bottom would be plain so that the main focus is on the top. Some of my pretty skirts have been paired up with just a plain white shirt.
I try to experiment with as much colors as possible. Sometimes different colors can look fantastic together! Instead of pairing your LBD with black pumps, try a different color like blue, yellow or red.
Even single color outfits can be spruced up by adding accessories of different patterns and colors.
If you feel great with what you are wearing, then, WORK IT GIRL!
Have fun!
I'm not a big print fan, but if I do wear a print it's always with a solid that "matches" in color. I have seen women wearing prints with prints, but I don't think it looks right. I'm always reminded of my son, then in kindergarten, coming out wearing a striped shirt and camouflage pants, and when told to change his pants for jeans getting told "They both have green in them". Yes, but it looked hideous.
Print purses don't seem to matter all that much.
Hi,
Great idea. I never wore white before and I think I will now. After reading how you pair it up with a printed piece. Wow, the visual sounds very nice! Thank you! Then which some fun jewelry pieces to top it off. nice.

Hi,
I agree with you. I never thought print on print looks good either. Some can pull it off nicely though. I think I will stick with one printed piece and the rest solid with accent jewelry to finish the look.
Thanks,
Crystal
