Hello,
Are small handbags only suitable for petite women? Is it true that you should match the size of your handbag to your overall frame, or can anybody carry any size handbag?

I have never heard the rule that a handbag should correspond with a person's size.

i have never heard of that size thing either. i think if you like it, carry it! and i also agree that it should fit what you need. but, for a formal event, i carry a small one, just to fit a compact, lipgloss, money, etc. whatever you feel comfortable with.

I don't think your size should have anything to do with your handbag, other than does it hold what you need at any give time. Doctors who specialize in orthopedics will tell you the heavier the handbag the more likely you are to have back and shoulder problems. I recently went from a fairly large bag to a smaller one, it holds what I need, and it tends to cut down on the amount of junk (unnecessary stuff) I put and keep in there. My only complaint is I can't fit a book in it. ;)
Like the others I have a smaller bag I use for formal events, and evenings out. I have noticed you rarely see a woman dressed to the nines with a hobo bag, usually they carry the small, often black, clutch that is just big enough for your driver's license, some folded bills, a small comb and a lipstick.

I would not follow that rule either. A large handbag, to me, feels matronly, old, and unstylish. The smaller the bag, the better.

And for going out, you should never have a large bag. Just enough for liptick, a cell phone, and a credit card/cash.

i think the rule is the same as with jewelry: the bigger you are, the bigger/bolder your jewelry should be, or in this case, your handbag. just as a big bag can look overwhelming on a petite woman, a tiny bag on a larger woman is equally awkward. bags don't need to be huge! my everyday bag of choice is about the size of a regular sheet of paper. but really, if you love the bag, go ahead and buy it whatever the size may be!
