Sewing snaps onto a halter bathing suit?

Has anyone done this? I have a bathing suit top that is a halter. I HATE halter, but it seems like that's all they really make in cheaper suits. I don't use the suit enough to warrant a $50+ top.  Anyway, I thought I could stand the halter, but as I've been trying the suit on now and then to make sure it fits and to see if it looks ok under the cover-up I bought, the halter is REALLY bothering me. So, I just went and bought some snaps for it. My thought is I can sew snaps on towards the middle/center of the back and bring the straps down. I am not going to be cutting the straps as if this doesn't hold up I want the option of being able to use the halter, kwim? I'm just wondering if anyone has done alterations like this to a bathing suit before and what your results were. :)

I absolutely hate halter style bathing suit tops too and I only buy bra tops or those with the criss-cross straps in the back. I've never tried to alter a halter top so I don't know how it would turn out. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I can count the number of times over the years I have worn a bathing suit on one hand. I just don't like how I look or feel in one so I rarely wear one. I do have a suit that was very expensive that I bought about 5 years ago to wear to the beach. It is a one peice that doesn't not have the halter top and it is much more comfortable. I expect it to last me many more years since it gets so little use.
