Stockings with a cocktail dress?

Hi ladies,

I live in So Cal and the weather is always awesome here which is perfect but I have a dilema...... I am going for a cocktail party Friday and need your help!

Is it appropriate to wear stockings/nylons/fishnets/designed stockings etc with short dresses? Yes I do understand that it would not work in summer time when wearing summer dresses.

My problem is that I have a pretty obvious and nasty scar from a surgery (on my shin) and I am pretty concious of it as it is pretty glaring and obvious. Other than this scar I have pretty good and shapely long legs and also, I am 46yrs. So I guess a younger gal can get away with a lot but I want to be dressed appropriately for my age without looking daft.

One more thing.... is wearing stockings/nylons ok with slingbacks with closed toes or open toes?

Please help ladies and thank you in advance.

I always wear stockings with everything because I have very bad spider veins. If you wear open toed shoes just make sure you get the sheer toe stockings.

I think it would be fine to wear stockings of some kind with a cocktail dress, especially if you would feel self concious of your scar. Afterall, confidence is sexy, right? I would say that if you were to wear stockings of some kind, I'd probably go with a closed toe shoe. Good luck deciding on what to wear and have fun at the party!

I don't see anything wrong at all with wearing stockings or hose with a party dress.  A lot of times I wear hose when I'm in a cocktail party dress or gown.  When I'm formal I usually have on strappy heels so I go with sheer toes.  Go have a blast!
