Hi Cindy (and other Lone Star ladies)!

Here's a change of pace: I'm thinking of taking a short vacation to San Antonio this fall. I know you're in Big D yourself, but have you ever been to SA? Any suggestions for what to see and do? (I'd have emailed via your profile but I don't think it's enabled. LOL)

Thanks for your help! :)

Hey there Chris! The Lone Star State welcomes you! I've been to San Antonio many many times and it's a great destination!

A few tips:

If you're going to be driving around be patient. Drivers are slow and often times entire roads are just shutdown out of nowhere.

The Riverwalk is fun and worth visiting but it's high priced and the restaurants are not that great. Niether is the shopping generally speaking. It's more of a place to just soak in the atmosphere. I do reccommend that you take a tour of the Riverwalk on one of the little boats. It's touristy but fun and there's good information and history.

I suggest going on the Mission Trail where you'll get to visit some very interesting Missions and very pretty and historical.

Hi Cindy! This is a big help - thanks so much! I was actually leaning towards an autumn visit (good weather then?), but am beginning to do the research now. (Fortunately the air and hotel will cost nothing out of pocket since I have plenty of rewards to redeem from earlier business travel!) I was definitely eyeing the Mission Trail and expect to do most of my touring either on foot or by public transport. And I especially am looking for the best food. ;)

Hi Cindy! I'll be in SA the last weekend this month - looking very forward to Texas hospitality. :) Thanks again for your assistance! Hopefully it will cool off a bit before my arrival. (LOL)

Chris, if this weather holds, wear the lightest cotton you own.

Hi Chris! I agree with sweetviolets! It's warm and muggy here in Dallas right now. San Antonio will have similar weather. Dress in cool clothing. Lightweight jersey knit pants and tops would be great travel wear.

Have fun and let us know how it went!

Be Safe!

Hi ladies! Thanks so much for your recommendations - I just came back from SA last night after a very fun visit to your home state. I enjoyed all the sights including the Mexican market (brought many tasty delicacies home with me!), the cathedral, the Riverwalk, and the Mission Trail. (On Saturday I backpacked it from the Alamo down to San Jose and back up again - over 12 miles under the hot Texas sun and now I'm a literal redneck! LOL) The hotel was ideal, everyone was friendly and the food was excellent...I especially enjoyed Dick's Last Resort on the Riverwalk. Had a great time and hopefully I'll return again someday! (I even found the exact style of cowboy hat I was looking for!)

Oh BTW Cindy, I even saw DFW from the air on my flight home. ;)

I'm sure you flew right over us; we can see the AA maintenance hangar from our dining room window...

Glad you had a good time!

That'a great Chris! So glad you had fun. San Antonio is just that kind of place. I remember going to Dick's Last Resort, that's a wild place! The wait staff is really fun. Several years ago my family and I got a front row seat for the Christmas parade barges down the riverwalk, so much fun!

BTW, did you see me waving to your plane as you flew over?? : - )

Ah, I thought that stylish lady waving at me was you! ;)

Yes, I first heard about Dick's from a professor I worked for in my college days - he was from Waco and had a hilarious fake expense receipt from the place hanging on his office wall. I knew then that it must be the place to go. (LOL)

We probably did! In fact we had a lightning fast takeoff on the way home - we were out of the gate and airborne within a minute, almost like being on an aircraft carrier. Love those smaller airports! (Completely unlike Philly. LOL)

Actually, I made my boat trip on Friday, the day before the new section opened - they did mention that there were free rides on Saturday for the grand opening and I meant to come back for it, but after having walked all that way down the Mission Trail on Saturday morning/afternoon I was exhausted. You would have found me in the hotel pool at that point! ;)
