I personally do not follow this rule. White is beautiful year-round. Also, after doing some research I couldn't find a clear reason why the fashion rule was instigated. One thing I would like to note that while I believe white is fashionable year round, the type of white may wear better in some season than others. For example: I think off white is better in the winter months and Spring where bright white is great for Spring and Summer.
