So scared to change...

I've been thinking of doing something different with myself a lot lately, but I am so scared to actually do anything. The last time I cut my hair (besides getting it trimmed) I had it cut from the base of my back all the way up to a boy cut. I HATED it! So the shortest it's been since then is to just below my bra in the back. It's all one length, cut straigh along the bottom, side parted. I haven't changed anything about it except for the length since I was 11, and the most stylish I get is a ponytail and a bun, which I alternate daily. I don't wear make up and don't know how to style at all, so even though I'm 25, I still get carded for lottery tickets. I'm tired of looking like I'm 12!

So I'm hoping someone here can help me. I need to change my hair, and I need to make sure it fits some criteria. The more I think about the things I need, the more I think what I have is what I'm going to be stuck with! I need my hair to:

1. be easy to style.

2. be styled with minimal products since I don't always get to wash it every day (hence the bun and ponytail).

3. make me look my age.

I have a 1 year old and I work full time, so I don't have much time to mess with my hair. I'd love something I could just run a brush thru and go. I'm willing to go semi-short, but not a boy cut. I have really straight, fine hair and an oval face, so they tell me I can wear anything. I'm also thinking of dye it, but I want to have it cut first.

Anyone have any suggestions? Or maybe a place in the Detroit area that can help me?

Thanks!

Shannon

P.S. do they have a perm that's not so 80's? Maybe one that just makes your hair a little wavy instead of all kinky?

HI Shannon, I used to have long straight hair as well, when i got sick of it(but not willing to lose all my length) I had a few inches cut off and had long layers cut into it. It will give your hair fullness, but is easy to style, if your ends are healthy you probably wouldnt have to style it on the days you dont have time. I would not get a perm if i were you, they are a little high maintenance, and if you want to dye it, perm plus color is alot of stress on your hair. good luck with your new look!

oh, I wasn't planning on getting a perm, at least not right away. or if I do, I'm not going to dye it. I just heard from someone that they have something like a perm, but it just makes your hair wavy rather than poodley. I got a poodley perm in 8th grade and I will NEVER have hair that curly again. It looked great the first night, but after that it never looked right on me. I can pull off wavey hair but not curly.

Hi there! This is Maven76!

I had long straight hair from 14 - 25 and was scared to chop

it.

One day I just made an appointment and thought to myself

"it will grow back if I hate it" They chopped and layered it

to just below my shoulders and I love it! It's made me get my hair done

more often.

It's been 4years and it's still short. Sometimes I go in and get it cut

shorter, I really have fun with it and it shows off my face more.

since then I'm not scared to experiement a little bit. I'm still "safe"

and never do drastic things, but cutting my hair felt so great!

....the first few days was wierd and it took awhile how to keep it low maintenance

but now I would never go back to long and straight.
