Where to start?

Hello!

I just read a couple of topics on this board. You all seem like nice and helpful people. :o)

I really need your help. I'm 16, soon to be 17. I've made a promise that I would improve myself before my 17th birthday (17 March). But I don't know where to start ... I absolutely want to improve my looks. Where to start and what to do then?

Thanx

I'm not really sure what you are looking to do, and what areas of your appearance you are lacking in. Could you be more specific?

Thanx for replying. :o)

Hmm there are loads of things I'd like to improve.

For starters my legs. I've got alienlegs! The part from my feet up till my knees is fine but everything between my knees and my waste is a disaster! It doesn't seem to match everything under my knees. Maybe I could change that with a couple of exercises or something like that?

I'd also like to know a bit more about hair removal. Those hairs on my legs, bikini area and under my arms grow pretty fast and they're always black. What's the best way to remove them and keep them away for as long as possible?

I also suffer from light acne. I hate those horrible red spots! They mess up my entire appearance!(My skin type is sensitive)

And the last important thing I can think off right now, is how I dress. I'd really like to know what style fits me the best because I absolutely don't have a clue. I don't know if this is important for clothes but I'm about 1m70, brown hair with a reddish tint, I got grey-green eyes and my skin comes pretty close to white.

Thanx in advance!

>>>everything between my knees and my waste is a disaster!>>> Welcome to the club! This is a problem area for me (and may women) too. I've found squats and lunges really tighten up my outer thighs. The inner thigh is a little trickier, what i do to work that area is lay on my back and squeeze an exercise ball between my knees with my legs bent, but before i had and exercise ball i used my niece's sponge bob ball it worked just as well (lol) Taking a walk is also great exercise for your legs and the rest of your body and it's free.
As for hair removal, waxing will last the longest, but is a bit expensive. I just shave with a good razor ( I like mach 3 which is for men but they also make a women's version.) If you are going to shave your bikini line make sure you use a new blade and go in the direction the hair grows. I don't really like hair removal creams, they make me break out and i know you said you have sensitive skin too.
I have light acne as well and have tried all the acne products on the market, until i realized that because these products are so drying and I dont have major acne that my skin was overcompensating for the loss of moisture and becoming even more oily and broken out. The best thing to do for your skin it to drink tons of water. I try to get as close to a gallon a day as I can, once I started doing this I noticed my skin was much clearer within 2 weeks. So now I just use dove unscented soap and an oil free lotion. I've also heard from friends that aveeno makes good products for sensitive skin.
As far as what style of clothes fits you best, it depends on your own taste, what looks good to you. Are you athletic, casual, do you like to look more sophisticated? Also what is your body shape? more pear shaped or more apple shaped? It all depends on how you are built to determine what shapes of clothing will look best on you. Other than that, It sounds like earth tones would look good with your coloring golds, browns, greens etc..
I hope I have at least partially answered your questions, If you think of any more or want to chat more about clothes or make-up feel free to ask.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! Thank you x 1 000 000 000 for your advice! I'm gonna try it all! It means a lot to me that you helped me. You're nice haha. :o)
For those exercises, I've heard that 10 mins of rope skipping a day helps a lot as well!
I'm gonna try to wax my legs n all the other parts. Turns out that one of my best friends knows a lot about waxing. I've got Christmas holidays in about a week so we're gonna give it a try then. If you hear someone screaming, it'll probably be me. lol
You drink a gallon a day?! Omg are you supergirl?? Where do you put all that water? I hardly drink 0.5 liter (or half a gallon ... more or less) a day! Maybe you could give me some tips? lol I'm asking you tips for everything haha!
Oooh wise sugar_magnolia_33 (lol it can never hurt to do a bit of sucking up), what's casual? What do people wear when they're "casual"? I'm pretty sure my body's pear shaped. What should I wear then?
Thanks again for all your help!

Hi niah1988 and sugar_magnolia_33!

Welcome to the board. Sounds like you have everything under control except the clothing. For clothing I would think you would look good in a pair of straight legged pants. You know the ones that fit straight through the hip and all the way down. You could wear a tee shirt with a tweed jacket over it. Or maybe a cute

Hey Niah, I'm so glad I could help. It took me a while to get through that much water a day, you kind of have to work up to it. I agree that you should wear straight leg pants or even with a bit of a flair, they will be the most slimming - no tapered pants!! by casual I guess i mean jeans and sweaters, that kind of thing. I know you dont like your thigh area, but what about skirts that hit just below your knee with some boots? I think thats a cute holiday look. Also if you have bigger hips/butt I would only wear patterns on the top. Think bright patterns and colors around your face and solids on the bottom. If you are brave you can find good sales the day after christmas. I'll be around if you want to chat more, until then... Good luck with everything and Happy Holidays!!

Wow, 16! I'm 3 years younger and already tried to improve myself and sort of succeeded. Well, if you most want to start at your hair, check out the mother-daughter and girl makeovers, because they'll show you step-by-step how to do certain styles for certain types of hair. Now, make-up, if you have light skin, try using light-colored colors, like pink(light pink for the blush, eyeshadow, and lip -stick or -gloss and white(white for the eyeshadow). If you have medium skin(tan skin or pretty tanned skin), use natural colors like brown, beige, pink(try not to use really light pink colors unless it really looks good on you, and try to stay away from white unless it looks okay). If you have dark skin, use dark colors like, brown, some beige, and for all color skins, don't be afraid to mix in some other colors (if it looksd okay). For your body, you don't have to go on a diet, but watch how and what you eat and try to exercise when you get the chance, oh yeah, and drink LOTS of water (8 glasses is recomended). Hope it works out for you!
