Jennifer Aniston: The "Rachel" Was the Ugliest Haircut

The star disses her iconic 'do -- and likely the women who rushed out to get it

chime in now

It was the style that launched a thousand haircuts, but Jennifer Aniston is now saying that the "Rachel" -- the layered coif she made famous during her Friends days -- wasn't exactly her favorite. In fact, she says in the February edition of Allure, "I think it was the ugliest haircut I've ever seen."

Shocking, considering that women across the nation saw Aniston (as Rachel Green) model the cut in the mid-1990s and dashed to salons hoping their stylists could turn them into the multi-layered beauty or -- at the very least -- replicate her look.

Indeed, the "Rachel" became one of the most popular haircuts of all time, says Brad Masterson, spokesman for the Professional Beauty Association, which represents hair salons. It's not surprising then, that some women who got the cut may now feel a bit crestfallen. "Most women wouldn't find it flattering" that Aniston is dissing her iconic style, Masterson says, and may stop looking to her as a continued source of style inspiration.

All of which may end up serving a higher purpose. Though there's nothing wrong with snagging hair and other beauty ideas from celebs, it's best to remember that what looks good on them won't necessarily look good on us. As a friend learned the hard way, "After trying the 'Farrah,' I decided that I was just not cut out for celebrity haircuts." (She eventually went for a style that suited her better.)

Good advice for all, especially those of us still confounded by our '80s perms.

Did you rush out and get a "Rachel"? Chime in below!

OMG, NOOOOOOOOO WAY!

LOL... I take it this wasn't on your list of favorite styles of the decade either? I remember a stylist friend of mine moaning about the number of women begging for this cut.

I remember that hairstyle. Jennifer wore it so well. I must admit though that some hairstyles may not fit everybody.

Exactly, not every cut looks great on everyone, thankfully, or we'd all be and look BORING!!! :)
