How much $$ do you spend on makeup?

I saw a line in a magazine article this week that said "$15,000. That's the amount of money the average woman spends on makeup in her lifetime."  What do you think of that stat? If you had to guess, how much do you think you spend on makeup each month?

OK, so you got me to add up what I spend in a year, more or less - probably $400-500 a year.  That number surprised me because while I wear full makeup every day, some of those things last forever, e.g. blusher, eyeshadow, eyebrow makeup, eyeliner.  I do have to replace mascara, foundation, cover-up, and primers 1-6x a year, depending on the product.  And I'm a nail polish junkie, which I guess is makeup even though I think of it as an accessory more than makeup.

Just don't ask me what I spend on skincare - for my face alone I'm sure it's twice what I spend on makeup - or salon visits.  When I was in my 20s and 30s I loved being low-maintenance (Noxzema & Oil of Olay!), but being well-groomed at 50 takes a lot more time, money, and effort.

I wear very minimal make up, eye shadow and powder is it most days and a spot treatment for blemishes.  I keep a tube of expensive tinted moisturizer in my make up bag, but only apply it a few times a month at best, possibly once or twice a week in the winter time.  My ODD is a nail polish hound, so I tend to use her's most of the time usually for my toes and only keep a few bottles of my own, usually clear and stuff to do french manicures at home.  I do use as much all natural make up and skin care products as possible, they are more expensive in general.  But I spend more on facial cleanser, moisturizer than make up.  I would say I might spend $50-100 a month at the very most and that would probably also include shampoo, conditioner, hair mousse for my frizzy wavy hair and hand and body lotion. Once i hit 40 in a couple of years, that might change a little...

I probably spend about 30 dollars a month on cosmetics but spend a lot more on facial cleansers, moisturizers, and hair products. I don't know if it makes me look any better but it sure makes me feel better.
