Best color for short nails?

I have fairly short nails that extend just past my fingertips. Are there any suggestions or "rules" on what shades work best on short nails? I think I've heard that lighter tones are better but sometimes it feels kind of boring. Any ideas or favorite colors you care to share?

Hi Missy and Welcome! As far as I'm concerned any color will look good on short nails. There are no rules as to what you can wear.

I flip-flop between light and dark on short nails. I love the look of dark colors, like burgundy and deep purples. I've been seeing a lot of that on TV as well.
