My nails need serious help...

They peel like you would not believe. I used to have nice strong nails, so I don't know what happened. I don't think my diet is too unhealthy. I have had a lot of stress in the past couple of years, so maybe somehow that makes them come in weaker, I don't know. I've tried a couple of different nail products recommended by beauty supply stores, but have not been impressed with any of them so far. I think we were told as kids to eat more jello or soak your hands in gelatin. I'm frustrated as heck. Please tell me you have some ideas for me!

Amy, I had the same thing happen, I had fantastic long strong nails then after I had a baby they started splitting & peeling & 7 years later, are still bad without help. I have been using Nail Tek II (which I believe will be recommended by others here) and they are now just fantastic. I can't find it in stores around here, I order it through the internet.

Hi Amy and Welcome to the Get Beautiful Nails Board!

For most women on the board who have splitting, breaking nails I recommend using Nail Tek 2 and SolarOil. I would use the Nail Tek 1 time a day for 3 to 4 days, remove then start over. I would not wear polish until you started seeing results and you have to use the system as directed. I would use SolarOil as much as possible, you cannot use too much. Use it around your cuticle and under the free edge of your nail. To replinish the moisture.

You can purchase SolarOil and Nail Tek from a license beauty professional. Ulta carries SolarOil, it's made by Creative Nail Design. Sally's Beauty Supply in Florida & California carry SolarOil as well. As for Nail Tek, you will have to email them for retailers in your area. Let me know if there aren't any retailers in your area, I know some of the ladies on the board order Nail Tek of the internet.

Here's Nail Teks website:http://www.nailtek.com/

And here's Creative Nail Design's website to find SolarOil: http://www.creativenail.com/contact_us.html

Hope this information helps and let us know if you have any other questions!

Good Luck!

::::::dancing around singing:::::: "Nail Tek and Solar Oil" !!!!!

Also another lil trick that is workig like magic is to rub a little bit of Creative Nail A.H.A. Cuticle Eraser into the cuticles everyday....wow man! You can do this with the Solar Oil....creates a moisture pack. Awesome!

I LOVE the AHA cream! I use every morning also! I NEVER have excess cuticles and I can use a wash cloth in the shower to push them back.

In the winter it is the ONLY thing that helps prevent hang-nails in my opinion...

Thanks soooo much for your input. I will definitely try those tips. Seriously you think having kids did your nails in? Cuz that's about when mine fell apart too. I think I initially assumed it was from washing my hands all the time (poopy diapers & all), but I don't have that many poopy diapers anymore and they have gotten worse, not better. Also, is peeling a sign of undermoisture, b/c I use lotion several times a day so I thought maybe it was too much moisture?

Hi Amy! I don't think having children have after effects on your nails. I think nails may not do as well because most Mommy's don't have the extra time to take care of their nails like they did before when they had more time.

When your hands are in a lot of soap and water it can be VERY drying on your nails causing them to peel. That's where SolarOil comes into play. Like I said in my earlier post, you cannot use to much SolarOil. Lotion is good for your hands, but SolarOil has specific natural oils, Jojoba, Rice Bran, Almond Oil and Vitamin that are able to penetrate the layers of your nail. Lotion does not do that unless, it has penetrating oils in it.

FYI, I've also been having problems logging into other board without my hat. What I have been doing is logging out of AOL or switching AOL screen names and then switching back. When I do this, I have to log into whatever board I want to view or post on without my hat. You may want to try that or talk to your moderator.

Good luck and let us know if the Nail Tek and SolarOil Combo works for you!

Amy, here's what my2scents writes about logging in and out with and without your hat on. Hope this helps.

my2scents writes:

Goddess, Ive done what you do re: changing names to post without cl hat on. But today I think I found a way to beat the system.

After I am through posting on your board, I'll click on LOG OUT. Then I'll go to my Favorites and double click on Fragrance Divas and it will come up without my name and I'll have to sign in to post. So.....if only this log out button will continue to work, I'll be ok. It just wouldn't work at all before today. So we'll see. Ivillage has to work out all the bugs on this new format.

my2scents writes: Well so much for THAT theory. Now the LOG OUT button wont work again and I'm stuck without my cl hat on.

Logging out of your internet screen name and relogging in, seems to be the best way to remove your hat at this point. Until iVillage figures something out.

Hi

Had the same problem with my own nails, tried evey lotion and potion available but nothing stopped my nails from breaking, i was told by the nail salon that the only thing i could do was have false nails applied, a friend told me about lunatips over 2 years ago now and ever since have had beautiful long strong nails that dont peel and break and that doesnt require any nail products. If you go to google and type in lunatips that will bring up the site where you can get free nail plans.

Good luck with your nails!
