Great board! I've heard that hydrogen peroxide works for yellow nails, but how is it used? Do you have to soak the nails in it, and for how long?

Anything else work? I've tried using base coat everytime, but my nails still eventually yellow.

Hi helenandnick and WeLcOmE to the Get Beautiful Nails Board. I have included a link of a post thats further down on the message board to help answer your question. There's several suggestions that should help with your problem.

Most of the time the reason why nails yellow is because of the dye in the enamel. It happens to most ladies who wear darker shades of enamel. You could also use a 3 way nail buffer to lightly buff some of the yellow off as well. You just need to be careful that you don't buff to much or you will end up taking too many layers of your natural nail off, in turn making your nail thinner and weaker.

Let me know if you have any other questions and which remedy you tried and which one was successful in removing the yellow stains.

Good Luck and Visit us often!

Thanks Goddess - I read all of the suggestions. I'll try the dishwashing detergent first, as I have it on hand! (no pun intended). Will move on to the others if need be.

I have filed off the top layer of nail, and this does work. Only problem with that is my nail grows in with a ridge afterwards. Maybe I'm filing too much off. Will let you know how it goes! Thanks again.

I've tried many many solutions, lemon, orange. toothpaste, etc you name it I've probably tried it, the only thing that works for me is to soak my nails in pure Javex for a few minutes, brush with nail brush, rinse, then brush again with soap.

hope this helps you

I've had this same problem with yellow nails myself (see my post a few down). No matter how good a base coat I use they eventually yellow if I keep them polished all the time. I tried many of the tips everyone provided and some worked for me a little but I finally found a product called Bubble White from Sally Beauty supply which really seemed to do a great job. Good luck.
