Only when really needed, though nail technicians use them all the time - some more vigorously than others.
I read an interesting thing in More magazine this weekend that I never knew before: nail polish acts as a sunblock for your nails, and therefore helps prevent signs of ageing, such as ridges. I've been wearing polish almost continuously since I was 18 - who knew I was doing something healthy?!
Yes, nail polish can protect our nails. About the ridges though...never heard of that one. Ridges can be hereditary, due to medication or illness.
