What can I do about a lost fingernail?

I can't be the first person to do this. I got my finger caught in a doorway. The finger went black, as you'd expect, then eventually back to normal. The fingernail went a little bit black, and now as it grows, the new part is black too. I think it will fall off eventually - I'd give it about 2 weeks. It is ugly, but I can live with it and I don't want to cover it with anything fake 'cos I need to see how it is progressing.

But I may have to live for several MONTHS with a fingerless nail, that's how long I have been told it'll take to re-grow normally.

Do the manicurists have an answer for this problem?

Hi KAYP100! And WELCOME to the board. Unfortunately, you will have to wait for your nail to fall off and your new nail to grow out. And I wouldn't think a nail professional would put anything on your finger until it is completely healed, I know I wouldn't. So, I'm glad you are not considering that route.

The only thing I can tell you is to have patience and wait for it to grow completely out. It should take on the average 4 to 6 months.

I wish I had better news!

Good Luck with that nail!
