What's your nail polish routine?

I've always just painted my nails with polish, but I know I need to do more.  Do you use a base coat first? Do you apply a top coat after the polish? What's your routine?

Hello and Welcome! it's always a good idea to first use a basecoat. This will allow nail polish to go on smoothly, especially if you have a problem with polish adhering. A topcoat is also a good idea - it will help protect your manicure.

This is my routine:

1. Apply nail oil to moisturize and nurture my nails. After 5 minutes or when it's all soaked in - wash my hands. Make sure your nails are completely dry before applying the next step or some products will not adhere properly.

2. Apply a basecoat and wait to dry.

3. Apply nail polish. Some people add two layers - I don't, unless it's a light color. I allow the polish to dry at least 15 minutes.

4. Apply a topcoat and wait to dry.

5. Apply a quick dry product.

That's my routine! Hope this helped ;-)

Mine is similar to Terri's.  I've never found polish to last well unless I use base & top coat.  Current routine is:

Base coat - Essie Ridge Filler

Polish - 2 coats unless it takes 3 to get the full color

Top coat - OPI Start to Finish

Quickdry - Essie Good to Go (it's supposed to be a top coat but I find it doesn't do a good job of preventing chips on its own so I use it over the OPI top coat, and the entire manicure is hardened in 30 mins).

Three days later, I fill in any chips, put on another coat of polish, and cover it with Essie Good to Go.  Lasts me through the week.
