I just heard a well-know dermatologist on TV recently say that he still highly recommends the old stand by "Head and Shoulders" shampoo for your kind of problem. Good Luck!

I had a very bad case of dermitis (sp?) when I was pregnant with my last child. Anyways, my doctor suggested I use Nizoral (sp?) shampoo. It worked for me.

I'm sorry to hear about your woes. I can relate to the dry scalp, but not the eye circles. I too suffered from an extremely dry scalp, the flakes were so large they almost looked like I was peeling. Then the hair, in the bang area, started thinning and you could see my scalp. I tried it all, Head and Shoulders, T-Gel, selsum blue, I even got a perscription from a dermatologist. I was convinced that it was from conditioners, because the harder i tried to moistureize, the worse it got.

THEN, a friend told me that her hair had started thinning when she was testing products for manufactures. So, she called them, they told her that many people are sensitive to an ingredient called: POLYQUATERNIUM 10. It is very difficult to find hair products without this ingr. I went through my stuff and found it in everything from shampoo, conditioner, mouse, gel etc. But try to find a product with out it. I did find that good old VO5 doesn't have it, and that a salon brand called Biolage doesn't have it. You might want to check out your local health food store to find a product there that doesn't contain it. I hope this doesn't sound like SPAm, that is not my intention. I'm a secretary, don't work in the hair care field at all, just telling you what I went through. It might/might not work for you, but it sure helped me. I still have a dry scalp, but its patchy and doesn't drive me nuts or embarass me so much any more.

Best wishes to you on your journey.

P.S. I hope i spelled that thing right. I just look for PolyQ 10 when I look at the ingredients list.

Hi Chipper and welcome here :) That is fabulous information and thanks a million for taking the time to post what you found out!

I have used VO5 shampoo and conditioner and really liked them but I tend to gravitate toward the sale shampoos ... maybe not the best idea but my teen son is excessive with shampoo so I have to hide my 'special' ones under the counter, then I forget to grab them on my way to the shower (sigh) so I just end up using the sale ones too! Anyway, I've digressed... I also have used Biolage products and LOVED them but never had any idea of them leaving out the harmful ingredient PolyQ10. I'm going to shop more wisely now, and thanks again!

Don't be a stranger :)

yes, I had pieces of scalp "skin" flake off & had about 5 or 6 bald spots going on. It was not just a simple case of dandruff or dry scalp. I still have flair-ups occasionally, but I'm able to deal with it. I think of lot of it was stress ( i notice when I stress up, it's starts up again) & I had a major bacterial infection going on in my body. I was on antibiotics for three months.
