While I'm not a fan (in the sense that I haven't read his books) I know what a huge name he is/was. All the books and movies/games based on his books. He will sorely be missed.

I've only read Patriot Games, and while I didn't understand a lot of the technical aspects, I enjoyed the relationships he created. I think Jack Ryan is a wonderful character, just a normal guy doing incredible things.  He's had so many movies come out from his books, you never can forget Sean Connery playing a Russian submarine captain.   He wasn't that old, I wonder what he died from.  Sad news :(
