Risqué book?

I just saw this article about Fifty Shades of Grey; part of a triple-X trilogy involving sex games and a bondage-loving billionaire. It's being compared to The Story of O from 1954 and it's gotten a ton of reviews from Goodreads.

Some see it as a harmless fantasy that can spice up a relationship while others see it as violence against women. Just wondering what your thoughts on it may be?

I hadn't heard of this book until I read this thread but I have to say my interest is definitely piqued now! I can't imagine how it would encourage violence against women if it's just about what goes on between a couple in the bedroom (even if it is S&M)...I mean, it's not like the character is going out and raping women, right?

However, like I said, I haven't read it yet so my opinion could still change.

Oh wow...I just went to Amazon to see how much the book was and it's temporarily out of stock. It must be crazy-popular.

I read The Story of O and The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy (by Anne Rice) years ago and found them interesting reads.

Dr. Drew doesn't like any expert that doesn't agree with him and he seriously loves to hear himself talk lol. Years ago I used to be a fan of his when he had his radio show Loveline. After he separated from that his opinions changed and he just became way too famous. He seriously has his hand in everything so I find it hard to really see him as a respected expert on any particular area. He just seems unfocused and overopinionated to me.

I feel that people who are upset about a fantasy novel are missing the greater issue. There are real cases of harm and injury to real people, women, children, and even men that take place in the world. If they really cared about abuse against women, they would first pay attention to real events and not some story in a paperback. I am sorry but the people who seek to capitalize and make a reputation for themselves but doing this, and not saying a word about the horrible events that take place, makes my cry. This year, a woman committed suicide because she was forced to marry her rapest. An actress was sentenced to 90 lashes from a whip and one year in jail because she made a movie where she had to act underground because her work was banned by the government, and a woman was beheaded for being a possesed. If you look it up, you will find not to long ago, a 14 year old girl was raped. The man who raped her reported her. She was arrested and whipped to death for being raped. She passed out at 80 lashes of the cane, and they continued to whip her. She died. I am sorry if my post is not ever cheerful. I am sensitive to people who profit by acting outraged, and then turn a blind eye to people in need. I am going to go cry and drink a bottle of wine.
