Ugh... DD dropped her Kindle in the sink!

Last night, my dd cleaned the kitchen after dinner. We'd both been sitting at the kitchen bar, reading and as she drained the sink, she picked up her Kindle. It slipped out of her hands and -- you guess it, right into the sink of draining water!

Thankfully, the water was almost all gone, so it didn't get a complete immersion. We removed it from the case as quickly as possible and dried it off. It was still on but we cut it off immediately, so it wouldn't short out, in case some water had gotten into the Kindle itself. Now it's sitting in a container of raw rice; hopefully, that will draw out any dampness that remains. Hey, I figure if that worked for my sister's cell phone, it could work for the Kindle, right?

Anyone else ever have a water accident with your e-reader? If so, what did you do and did it work?

Oh No!  Be sure to let us know if the rice method works for you.  I haven't dropped my Nook or my cell in water, but hubby dropped a good camera in a creek while hiking.  I'll remember the rice method if it ever happens again.  Thanks for letting us know about this.

Well, dd decided this morning to pull her Kindle out of the rice and see if it worked. I tried to talk her into waiting another couple of days, but her schedule changed at work and she has the next couple of days off. Not being able to use her Kindle was driving her batty. So, she turned it on...

and it works!! Whew... talk about a lucky break! She's been happily reading for the last few hours and it's operating like normal, so it looks like the rice thing can work. :smileyhappy:
