I'm reading The Night Strangers by Chris Bohjalian. I was *extremely* hesitant to read this book. I loved some of Bohjalian's earlier books, like Midwives. However, I absolutely hated the last book of his I read, Skeletons at the Feast - I gave it a 1 (out of 5) rating! The synopsis for The Night Strangers was so compelling that I decided to take a chance. I'm only on page 87, but so far, I'm not disappointed.

I live in Dallas, where we don't have seasons, so no real leaf-changing for me.

Just started the group read, The Lake of Dead Languages by Carol Goodman.

There's a scattering of fall colors on a few trees right now but the real riot of color is still a few weeks away.

I've finished The Lake of Dead Languages, so I'm back to reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

I finished Flash and Bones by Kathy Reichs over the weekend. I'm going to start The Reinvention of Love by Helen Humphreys. I don't remember why I ordered this at the library but it must have been recommend to me. If it doesn't grab me, I'll move on. A stack all arrived at the same time so I need to get busy. I'm also reading and enjoying The Lake of Dead Languages by Carol Goodman. I can't believe how long this languished on my bookshelf.

Being on the west coast most of our trees are evergreens, so we don't get lots of fall color but the ones that change color are starting.

Yesterday I finished The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell, very apropos on Columbus Day/ Canadian Thanksgiving Day it's about the Puritans and why they came to the Northeast and how very important what they thought and wrote still is.

Right now I'm reading Wicked Girls by Stephanie Hemphill which is a novel in poetry about the seven girls from Salem in 1692 who did the witch fingerpointing.

I'm also reading and also enjoying Rosemary and Rue a new to me UF fantasy series about October Daye who is a half- faerie half- human who is compelled to investigate a murder. It's by Seanan McGuire.

Next up? I have The Lake of Dead Languages, On Jellico Road by Marchetta and The Broken Teaglass for a RL book club...

Just finishing Beach Trees by Karen White and will be starting The Lake of Dead Languages by Carol Goodman for the group read.

We have mostly pine here, but a few trees are turning yellow and my maples are a reddish/orange right now.
