The Sweet Potato Queen’s Book of Love by Jill Conner Browne 213 pages 1/18/13 pub 1999

To say that I despise this book is not damning enough. On the one hand, I’m glad I read it, because it’s refreshing to be reminded of why I don’t usually read chick lit: it’s demeaning to women, to men, to everyone on the planet. It makes me feel dirty to read, and not because of the sex, but because of the games. There may be a good recipe in it, I’ll find out when I make it for our Messy Housekeepers Book Club meeting next week. It’s for “chocolate stuff,” I intended to make sweet potato pie for our discussion of this book, but this book is not worth the effort. This will be on my list of worst books of the year, which is a sub-list of Book Challenges I have never felt the need to make before reading  this. (Interlibrary loan, Messy Housekeeper’s Book Club, I’ll make a sweet potato pie, chocolate stuff, wear a tiara, green t-shirt and elbow gloves.)

Replying to my own post: last night at my book club meeting my friends said this isn't typical of chick lit; it's just a bad book!

And the chocolate stuff from page 170 came out weird and not great...
