Hubby's family tradition is to watch movies on NYE and mine is to watch the ball drop in NY, so we combine both of those. Usually we're partway through a movie just before midnight but we stop it to watch ABC. (Last year at this time we didn't have cable or satellite, just one Canadian channel!)

This year, we thought we'd try keeping Tim up till 9 Pacific since we have an eastern ABC feed. (At some point we should change up our satellite package to include the western feed 'cause then we'll have all sorts of options for TV shows. LOL) He almost fell asleep at about 8:30 but he made it to the ball drop and then was disappointed he had to go to bed, hee hee.

We watched "Dance with Me" while Tim was awake and then "Hollow Man" and "Easy A" after that. The middle movie was the only one I wouldn't recommend - more violence than I expected and just not really satisfying as an action flick.

Our midnight coverage came from a Canadian channel this time, so we got to hear an old Barenaked Ladies favourite ("If I Had a Million Dollars") and saw some fireworks from Niagara Falls. (Not sure why there wasn't anything from Vancouver or Victoria - maybe they gave the employees from those stations the night off and just used a rebroadcast from the east.)

Sounds like a great evening!

The terrific two had a friend over. Dh made homemade cheesy garlic breadsticks and pizza crust. We made our own pizzas, watched Despicable Me and drank sparkling apple-grape cider. We watched the ball drop and then off to bed I went and read before going to sleep. Very laid back night!
