Welcome to the Bookshelf! Make yourself comfortable and feel free to chat it up!

What's your favourite thing about January? Any winter festivals where you live? What else are you looking forward to this month? Spill! ;) Don't worry, I'll go first:

In case you didn't yet know, I'm Becca from Western Canada. We have a lot of snow so far this winter, so I'm getting my exercise just trying to keep up with clearing the driveway and pathways.

My favourite thing about the month would probably be evenings spent indulging in reading or putting puzzles together. (I usually get one or two for Christmas and that might lead to me picking another few from my puzzle collection sometime in January or February. I don't intend to do puzzles only at the beginning and end of the year, but I do tend to jump to other hobbies the rest of the year.)

There's a winter festival here at the end of the month, something new - at least, I don't remember it from 2012. ;) Not sure if we'll check it out - sometimes with younger boys, I think it might be best to wait a couple years until they can both participate in more activities, and remember them too...

I can't think of anything I'm looking forward to this month, tsk tsk. Maybe adjusting our usual routine for a new year and hopefully working in more shared playtime. (My guys are pretty good at playing independently and while that's great for knocking down the daily to-do list, it might mean less time spent having fun together! All work and no play makes Becca a dull girl. ;) )

Cindy here from the state of New York.  My favorite thing about January is that it is my dd's birthday.  I can't think of anything else I look forward to this month.  I really hate snow.  I do have to get the kids outside to make a snowman since we have a ton of it right now though.

We also have lots of snow, but haven't made a snowman in a while and even then we had to pack it rather than roll - not sticky snow, I guess. We got a set of snowman decorations for Christmas - scarf, pipe, carrot nose, buttons, etc. - so we definitely need good conditions to make a new one. (Very cool gift!)

Stay warm, Ruth! Hope the house cleaning goes well and it doesn't take long to find a buyer. Hooray for the hockey game! Our local team is the Nitehawks and they often play the team from my hometown, the Rebels. I'm quite conflicted when those games happen, not knowing who I want to win! ;)

Brenda in Northern California. It is cold here too, but not snowy. Not much excitement in January, is there? I guess just getting back into the routine of school and working out and all that. DH is still working on the bathroom so I hope that is done this month!

Angie from Maryland. I love that my twins birthday (9th) is in January and my granddaughter is due next week. Weather wise it has been warmer here this winter which I am enjoying. Not a huge fan of the snow, but my family is, so I hope we get one good sledding/snowman making snow for them. I prefer curling up with a cup of hot tea/coffee/chocolate and a good book when the white stuff in on the ground. ;)

I hope the work goes well on the bathroom. Is it your main bath or a secondary one?

We have lots of snow here but only managed one snowman so far. I'd like to get out again and use the snowman accessories we got for Christmas to make one spiffy snowdude! ;)
