This was an excellent ending to this series. The author had planned on ending the series with the previous book, Trial By Fire. But after 9/11, she wanted to write one more. There were times while reading that upset me because I knew people really lived through experiences like depicted in the novel. I am glad she decided to write this one.
When a bomb explodes in the 30-story Icon International building, fire departments from around the area are called in to battle the blaze. But as firefighters work to evacuate the upper floors of the building, more bombs explode, causing the lower floors to cave in. Firefighters and civilians are buried beneath the rubble. When the smoke finally clears, lawyer Jill Clark Nichols realizes that her husband Dan, one of the firefighters, is missing.
Were the bombs the act of a terrorist, or a greedy scheme? Can Jill’s faith carry her through the long days of pain and uncertainty? And did Dan survive . . . or did he sacrifice his life in the line of duty?
