Again and again, each time he neared the cellar door. Slowly he unlocked it, pulled up on the latch.
Ssstt! Jumped back, fell over the tin pail and watched Skinny Sam, Viv's cat, flash by his eyes. It ran for the breakfast he'd left out yesterday morning. Guess Skinny had been in there for two days at least and something had terrified him.
No matter. Investigate later. Time to go for the graveyard stones, the wooden caskets, and bones. Viv's Halloween Affair was going to be the best.
Down the stairs, and honey dripped on his face. That smell unmistakable. Before he had time to clean it off something grabbed him across the jaw bone. Slice! Five paths across the cheek. A bear? Something furry and ripely pungent. Once more, across his chest before he could move.
He fell on the steps, felt this creature crawl over him and head out into the yard.
All he could think was My God! Viv! a silent scream,as he lay gasping to draw breath and looked up to see Viv up top, covered from her neck down in heavy fur.
Viv dances back, swinging the bear head, yelling "I love surprises, especially for Halloween!"

Rose, how about a poem that treats only one sense at a time?
Ssstt!
Again and again, each time he neared the cellar door.
Slowly he unlocked it, pulled up on the latch.
Ssstt!
Jumped back,
fell over the tin pail
and watched Skinny Sam, Viv's cat,
flash by his eyes.
It ran for the breakfast he'd left out yesterday morning.
Guess Skinny had been in there for two days at least

This is great. It should make me more alert to

You got all the senses in this one, with a real surprise ending. Part of the surprise for "him"
This doesn't use all five senses, but it does use a few, and it's an "October" poem:
This is wonderful----Windblown Cats I love it!
