Hi Rose,

This prompt is almost the same thing, but it starts from what you lost instead of what you found:

Many personal experience narratives tell about a loss: loss of a home, a friend, a family member, an opportunity, a way of life, and so on. To fill out this narrative for storytelling, authors look deeper for something they found there because of the loss. What are all the details and emotions related to the loss, and how and what did you find?

It's from Aprile, D. (2009). Lost & found: uncovering buried treasure in your stories. In S. Ellis (Ed.), Now write! nonfiction : memoir, journalism, and creative nonfiction exercises from today's best writers and teachers (pp. 61-63). New York: Penguin.

Sorry you found yourself in the hospital! My husband went through a similar experience a few years back, as for me I have never had a bad experience with a dentist, but I've never had to have much work done except for a filling or two and teeth cleaning. Enjoyed the poem, thanks for posting.

No self respecting dentist on our NHS,
(National Health Service)
would touch me.
Too many complications.
He injected my gums,
waited......waited......
and finally
