I translated this loosely at the end.

The German is a bit different from what I remember from my high school and university German, which was generally High German, so I checked my ancient Langenscheidt's dictionary. After all the checking and relearning bits of formal German and your words and phrases in the form the language is actually spoken now, I enjoyed the translation.

Could you write this in a looser translation, one that more strongly reflects the heartbreak and despair of the German that doesn't always come through in a close translation into English?

This could almost be a song

Oh, so sad -- so beautiful.
