New life as a writer

For 2012 my goal was to write my first book. I accomplished that goal, and for 2013, I'm hoping to write my second book. The first one was a coming of age story based on my life, Coming to Astoria: An Immigrants Tale. It took me two tries before getting it right. The first book was too short and left too many unanswered questions. Hopefully, I got it right with the second one.

This years story takes place in Milford. It will be about an entire family that died over a two year period. The inspiration for this book came from a walk in our local cemetary. We saw the headstones for two sons and the father. The sons were in their late teens, and all three died on different dates over a two year period.

Coming up with the ideas and writing the books is a lot of fun. The rest of it is a lot of work, but well worth the effort.

If anyone is doing the same thing, or about to start, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or need some help. I learned a lot from other writers along the way, so this is my way of paying it forward.

Welcome to the board... and a huge congratulations on completing your first book! It sounds very interesting; I'm a big fan of coming of age stories. And your plans for the second book are compelling, too. Will you be writing it as a ficitional account or are you doing some research to make it more fact based? Either way, it's got the markings of an intriguing story. Good luck and I hope you'll let us know how your life as a writer is progressing!
