I just saw this on The Leaky Cauldron this morning.  I didn't especially care for the book, but maybe I am in the minority.

The Casual Vacancy, J.K. Rowling's latest novel, will be made into a miniseries for the BBC, it's been reported today. BBC One and BBC Drama have entered an exclusive adaptation deal; it wil be produced by an independent production company produced by J.K. Rowling's agent, Neil Blair (on behalf of his agency, The Blair Partnership) and Rick Senat.

JKR will "collaborate closely" with the project. The number and length of episodes has not yet been decided. It is expected to air in 2014.

JKR said of the adaptation:

"I always felt that, if it were to be adapted, this novel was best suited to television and I think the BBC is the perfect home."

Interesting; I didn't care much for the book, either because I just wasn't able to care about the characters. To me, they were just pretty much one-dimensional. Maybe the BBC series adaptation will manage to flesh out the characters as individuals; I pretty much like everything the BBC produces, so I'm rooting for this to be a success!

As a huge fan of a lot of BBC programming, I'd be willing to give the series a shot. Wink
