The easy answer is no, but the harder answer is to the question, why not?

I think Ron grounded Harry in normalcy a bit. Plus, if Ron was gone, I don't think Harry would have ever trusted anyone to help him to the end.

I think Ron brought a sense of family to Harry, and he lost so many "family" members throughout the series that he needed one stable one.

I'm so glad JKR didn't kill off Ron. It would have been a terrible mistake, IMHO. Like one of the other posters said, Ron brings a sense of family to Harry. He also brought a lot of levity to the series.
