Wow... according to this article, The Hunger Games books are some of the most challenged by parents and teachers, ranking number 3 in the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom list. The objections reported were "sexually explicit" and "Anti-ethnic; anti-family; insensitivity; offensive language; occult/satanic; violence." http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/46995141/ns/today-books/#.T4W1-NXHkxQ
Ok, so I totally get the concern over the violencet; the story is basically a war trilogy, so of course there is violence. But those other things... I'm wondering if these people even read the same books I did! Granted, I wouldn't hand them off to an eight year old, but YA to me implies teens and the teens I know loved the books and enjoy discussing them.
What do you think? Are we as a whole being overly sensitive... and if so, is that really good for our children?

Wow.

Yes, we're being overly sensitive, I think. But I do feel there are valid points brought up to protect our kids. Having said that, it's up to each parent to do what they feel is appropriate for their child.
