I'm totally flabbergasted by this! I thought that Amandla Stenberg was absolutely perfect in the role of Rue! Geeze, what in the world is it with some people?

Even though the character of Rue in Suzanne Collins' book "The Hunger Games" is described as having "dark brown skin and eyes," many moviegoers were surprised -- some negatively -- that a young black actress played the role in the film.

And it seems they didn't stop at complaining about Rue... they also targeted the choices for characters Thresh and Cinna. Thank goodness people were swift with their responses to those negative douchebags! My personal favorite rebuttal was this one, in response to one hateful individual who claimed that Rue being black spoiled the movie for her. "Heads up: if discovering Rue is black 'ruins' the Hunger Games movie for you, you have a lot bigger issues to worry about than casting." Amen to that!

Off my soap box now;

The only thing that upset me about the movie is now I have to wait until November 22, 2013 to see the sequel! LOL

Yay... another reader joins in!! Are you enjoying the book?

Like you, I don't get what the big surprise was about Rue being black. Ok, so some of the movie goers may not have read the book, but still... there were posters and trailers that showed Rue. What did they think -- that

I thought the actress cast in Rue's part looked perfect.

I just started reading the book last night (60% through according to my Kindle app). I don't understand why casting a black actress bothers some people. I just read Rue's description last night, and the casting choice makes sense to me.
