"Fans of YA literature and America's BFF Jennifer Lawrence are chomping at the bit to see next month's "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," and the details we're getting about the sequel are only stoking our excitement.
Director Francis Lawrence recently chatted with New York magazine about the film as part of a series on young adult novels and their ever-increasing cultural reach. Fans and critics had a mixed response to the first film, which was written and directed by Gary Ross. The biggest offense was Ross's use and abuse of shaky cam, which Lawrence assures us has been left behind. Our tummies thank you, Francis!
Another detail that left fans unsatisfied was the portrayal of the love affair -- and the strategy behind it -- between Katniss (Lawrence) and her teammate Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). Lawrence was honest but delicate about his criticisms, stating, "I felt the love story in general was, um, a bit buried in the first one. I wanted to bring the love story to the surface. And when I say love story, I mean the triangle." All those fans of Gale (Liam Hemsworth) will definitely be looking forward to that."
I'm a little excited about this — ok, A LOT excited! LOL
