JKR- Harry and Hermione should have ended up together!

Earlier this month J.K. Rowling blew legions of Harry Potter fans out of the water when she disclosed in an interview that she regrets not pairing Harry and Hermione together.

As someone who writes fiction, I understand that even though a story may be considered "finished" to a reader, to an author it may be something that they constantly revisit and revise in their mind.  As a huge HP fan, though, I take umbarage at JKR changing tacks like this at this late date.  I mean, really, Jo?  Do we fans have to know that Ron and Hermione would have needed marriage counseling?  What if Jane Austen had written that Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett should never have been together?  While it doesn't ruin things for me- I'll always love the Harry Potter books; I have to wonder why we fans need this information nearly seven years after the release of the last book.

What say you?  Do you mind JKR disclosing this kind of information?  Why or why not?

I don't mind -- she's human, she's allowed to have regrets.

Certainly that pairing would have changed the books and the movies. I like the pairing she published, because it wasn't as easy, as obvious. And putting Ron and Hermione together may have been healthier, as relationships go.
