Do you like it when a book becomes a movie? Which, on average, do you think is better? Give me some examples of good and/or bad movies from a book.

Most of the time, the book is better. Sometimes a lot better. I do get excited when I see a favorite book is being made into a movie, but too often I'm left a little disappointed.

The Bourne Identity: Very good book. Kept you guessing and turning the pages to the end. But the movie had no middle! It might be a good movie if you never read the book, but if you had, you'd see they got the beginning close to the same, then maybe one chase scene, and the end! Poof! No middle! lol!

The absolute worst movie made from a book was Watchers. The book, by D. Koontz is one of my favorites, but the movie obviously was made for teens. It lowered the age of the characters by about 15 years, I think, and just seemed to be centere around the two kids' raging hormones, instead of the fantastic dog and why he was the way he was and what made "the Other" the way he was! I walked out as soon as I realized how they'd butchered the story and asked for my money back (and I got it, too!)

"The Shining" with Jack Nicholson was another bad remake. Shelly Duvall was a horrible take on the woman in the book and J. N. just seemed to be making a mockery of the whole story. BUT... The TV movie of this book, that was out a few years ago, was a great adaptation of the book! It stayed true to the story and was scary, instead of silly.

hmmmmm.....I have been thinking about what books that I have read that had been made into a movie...

1. Where the Heart is by Billie Letts, is a great book and the movie wasn't horrible, but the book was better.

2. Ashamed to say that I have watced some Danielle Steele movies that were made from her books and they were horrible...lol.

3. Lord of the Rings....I liked the movie and the book.

I think that most of the movies from books are good in their own ways and with the movies that I have watched made from books I probably would have enjoyed them if I didn't read the book.

I have to agree with !!!THE SHINING!!! with Jack! Worst adaptation I've ever seen! Shelley Duvall was embarrassingly (is that a word?LOL) wrong for the part! We laughed all the way through.

One of the best.."GONE WITH THE WIND"..loved the book and the movie.

If a movie is coming out that was made from a book I haven't read I will wait to read th ebook until after I have seen the movie. I don't think I have ever seen a movie from a book that was better than the book and after you read a book you already have pics in your head of what you think the characters should look like etc. Plus there is no way to get all the info in a book across in a movie.

I thought Divine Secrets of the Ya0Ya Sisterhood was a horrible adaptation but the friend I saw it with hadn't read the book and she thought the movie was great. someone mentioned the Bourne Indentity. I haven't read the book but I loved the movie. Same with The Shining. Loved the movie, but I haven't read the book. Too scary for me, I shoudn't have even seen the movie. ;-)

There are 2 movies that stand out in my mind that I read the book first and could still enjoy the movie. Those are Gone With the Wind and Lonesome Dove. Melody

Yes, the LOTR movies are very true to the books and almost as good.
