I wish I would have waited to see Sherlock Holmes at the Dollar theater or rented. It was kind of slow, dark, then gave a bunch of info, then was darker, then more info.... filming and acting were excellent, but the story didn't flow right or the continuity was off. I'm still trying to figure out what was missing.

It's directed by Guy Ritchie so I'm wondering if I would like this myself. I can't think of any Guy Ritchie movies I have liked.

Dh and I are supposed to see this.

One question for you, though, is this movie Steampunk? If it is I'll have to skip it.

I was surprised it was a Guy Ritchie film as I loved Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Sherlock wasn't as good as those two in my opinion. I have no idea what Steampunk means or refers to. Sorry.

Don't worry about it. I didn't even notice.

Steampunk is Victorian setting with modern things added in a fantasy way. The movie "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" seemed this way. I was worried that Sherlock Holmes would use some modern gadget like a computer or flying machine but thankfully no.

I sent dh to see Sherlock Holmes without me. I'm a big fan of Sir Conan Doyle and this movie wasn't a true detective mystery with logical deductive reasoning. Way too much violence for my liking. Violent scenes are so boring and tedious.

I didn't like the writing much. I'm a fan of Conan-Doyle and of the old Sherlock movies; also, I love Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. and their acting was perfect, but this was too much "action or comic book hero" and very little detection for my taste. You may have heard that "House", the medical television program with Hugh Laurie was based on Sherlock Holmes, but this movie seemed like it was based on "House".

I enjoyed the set design a lot, though!
