Good movie but LONG!
The blue glowing penis is apart of a character, Dr. Manhattan
Maybe I needed to have read and be a fan of the graphic novel before I saw this, but on its own, I have to say, I didn't like it. It was alternately boring and confusing - or maybe I just wasn't trying that hard to follow it.
As for the glowing blue p...., there may be an unrated version of the film that had more of it, but the movie I saw didn't have all that much of it shown. Or maybe I'm just unobservant.
I didn't see the movie in theaters, but am halfway thru the graphic novel.
Netflix sent it before I read the reviews, so I began the movie reluctantly...I actually considered sending it back, without watching it, and I hate doing that! But...
I liked it. A lot. I thought it was engrossing. Granted I did hold a pillow up to my eyes during the more violent scenes (a couple were particularly disgusting) but I often do that because I am squeamish.
The glowing blue penis really wasn't that big (ha, ha) of a deal. I only noticed glimpses of it in one, maybe two, scenes. I did think that overall the movie did push the boundaries of an R-rated movie.
It was very much a shades of gray movie, although the "good" guys did win some skirmishes.
The soundtrack was awesome.

I re-watched it last night (I admittedly wasn't paying the strictest attention the first time) and I really did like it.
I think it would be good for the Frank Miller crowd, if you liked 300, Sin City and the Spirit you'd likely enjoy Watchmen, but if they aren't your cup of tea you may not.
