... or special effect you can think of? Something that just amazed you or blew you away when you saw it?

Mine is probably going to sound silly, but you have to remember it was 20+ years ago. It was the opening scene of Star Wars. You sit there and read the text as it scrolls up the screen and into infinity, then suddenly there is this ship, racing away from you across the screen! Then you hear - and almost feel - something else coming. Something big! Then, there it is! Starting as just a point of white, then angling out... and out! So massive, it eventually takes up the whole screen! The Imperial Star Cruiser! I actually gasped, and may have ducked! And I wasn't the only one! It was just awe inspiring!

Movie goers back then had never seen anything like this! We were used to space ships that you could almost see the wires moving them, lol, and Star Wars, from that first scene, just blew all that out of the water (or sky, I guess). Even now, even knowing how it was done (kind of), I still feel the same way when I see that scene on the big screen (the best way to see it!).

Okay, as soon as you've stopped laughing at my response, tell me what blew you away.

2 scenes popped into my head when I read your post.

The first is in the 1st LOTR movie when they're entering into a place by boat. Don't ask me where they're going, I have to re watch the movie!! But, it's incredible the scenery is MASSIVE and the music playing just warms me. Silly I know ;)

The other one is in the movie Steel Magnolias when they're all at Julia Roberts grave site after her funeral. When Sally Feild has almost an emotional breakdown after loosing her daughter. I've watched that movie dozens of times, but it never ceases to make me overwhelm with grief for her as a Mom I can't imagine in a million years what that must feel like to loose a child. Ugh, I can't go there, I'm already filling up!!!

Thats just 2, I'm sure if I sat here long enough I could come up with dozens of moments that have left me awe struck!!

Wordy you are not silly for thinking of the opening scene of Star Wars. When you watch it now it is awe inspiring and it was made in 1977. I know when they rerelased it, I felt the same way.

As for me the one that came to mind was in American President when he is talking about what it is to be an American. It always makes me feel pround, and think that maybe real presidents need to get some of the movie writers to write their speechs.

The first scene I thought of was the scene in Jurassic Park when the hellecopter comes into view of the Island for the first time and all of the dinosaurs are in the field, along with the great music that is playing it took my breath away.

I agree with all your awe inspiring moments and am getting chills just reading about them from you all!

Two came to my mind:

The speech Bill Pullman gave as president in Independance Day right before they went out to fight:it was very patriotic and inspiring.

Titanic: the scene when we first saw the boat as it was getting ready to go out. It was so majestic and the music was building and you could feel the excitement they must have felt. That one reminds me of the Jurassic Park scene you mentioned cause the music was so fitting!
