I am sitting up as much as I can while I sleep. I'm not using a humidifer so I'll set that up tonight. I really didn't think of it.

I've always had to sleep sitting up when I have a bad cough. Also, people (like you and I who have asthma, our asthma gets worse when lying flat.
My DH's mom, who has a PhD in nursing and her friend who is also a nurse told us to get a vaporizer not a humidifier because of mold and mildew or something. (I'm not so sure of that.) I haven't researched it yet because we can't afford either one, a good one anyway. I used to use cheap vaporizers but they had to be cleaned out almost everyday which was a pain and never saw much improvement anyway. I'd like to get a really nice humidifier (one that can take care of pretty much a larger area then just a bedroom and an air cleaner to go by the bed, but those cost around $100 too. But we are so much better after getting our air ducts and air vents cleaned out. They were filthy and it's amazing how much better we got immediately, even while the guy was still here cleaning them. We aren't 100% because of the stuff in the carpet and furniture. But we are so much better. DH stopped coughing so hard he vomited, Matthew was coughing so hard he vomited a couple of times and I gagged a bunch of times and almost threw up. Yeah, choking, just like you! But not anymore!! We were going to have to move if they didn't clean them, that's how bad it was. They had remodeled right before we moved in and all that insulation and fiberglass and sheet rock dust went right into the air ducts. The guy even said that brand new homes have the same problems, because some construction workers will even throw the trash down into the vents! If you can afford it, I'd say try it. It's worth a try to maybe feel a little bit better? Hope you are doing better soon!

Great! So glad you got some better sleep! Let us know how it goes at the doctor.

Chris - I tried the Vicks on my feet (maybe if I had someone rub them - :( - but every night, DH and I both put Vicks under our nose and on our throat and chest and that really seems to help us sleep.
