I love cooking competition type shows, so I was excited to see what I thought was a new one this season... American's Next Great Restaurant! I've watched the first two shows and really enjoyed it; it's somewhat different than just a cooking competition, like Hell's Kitchen. In this show, people from every walk of life compete for the opportunity to see their original restaurant concept spring to life - starting with the opening of a restaurant chain in three locations - Hollywood, Minneapolis and New York City.
Funding the restaurant concepts are four accredited investors: Chefs Bobby Flay, Lorena Garcia and Curtis Stone, plus with Steve Ells, founder of Chipotle. They mentor the contestants and put them through business and cooking challenges to determine who the ultimate winner will be. The contestants themselves don't actually have to be fabulous cooks; it's more about coming up with a concept and growing that into a viable, marketable and appealing reality.
Some of the ideas are really interesting; there's one woman who wants to open a chain called Limbo... offering both decadent and healthy choices of the same dish, so you can be naughty or nice! My husband is already picked his favorite, rooting for the guy who wants to open Meltworks, grilled cheese sandwiches for adults. I have to admit, some of the cheeses and toppings he was using had my mouth watering!
Has anyone here watched the show? Just wondered what you think... I kind of enjoy getting to see how things like logos and slogans are tweaked to both appeal and explain a concept.
