Let's talk Oscars

The Golden Globes winners have taken their place in the spotlight; now everyone seems to be gearing up for the 2013 Oscars... I just love seeing all the fashions on the red carpet! Now that the nominations are in, who do you think will win?

There are a lot of really good movies, including the Golden Globe winner for best picture, Argo. I just read this article that predicted Argo is likely out of the running, since the director, Ben Affleck, wasn't nominated in the best director category. It seems few movies win best picture if the director doesn't make the best director cut... to me, that's just crazy! Is it just me or shouldn't a movie be judged on it's own merits and not be dependent on also having to have the director nominated, too?

Honestly, I just watch the Oscars to see the gowns and the celebrities and I see the movies I'm interested in, whether they've won an award or not.

Like you, I think the movies and people should be judged on their own individual merits... but the PTB in Hollywood are fickle; sometimes their choices make sense to me but normally, I'm left wondering "What were they thinking?" Yell Guess it's a crap shoot! LOL

I totally get what you're saying about dismissing a movie simply because the director wasn't nominated in that category and I agree. I think most of us judge the movies on whether or not we like them... at least I do! Wink

Did you see this article on the different nominees? I hadn't heard anything about Beasts of the Southern Wild, but I read that it's a fable about a child surviving a Louisiana flood...and since I'm from Louisiana, I want to see it now! Plus, I think it's cool that 9 year old Quvenzhane Wallis has been nominated for best actress... the youngest nominee ever in that category! For that alone, I'll be cheering for her! LOL
