Hi everyone. I just found a recipe I want to try for a fingerling potato salad, but it has shallots in it and I'm not a fan (of onions either). Would you recommend maybe just a hint of onion powder (I'm talking minute!) or just leave it out all together. This is the recipe:http://www.rachaelraymag.com/recipe/fingerling-potato-salad/

A drop of onion powder is not going to flavor anything.  Plus, POWDER is not the same as a fresh ingredient, which contributes both crunch and mouth feel as well as flavor.  If you dislike onions that much, leave them out.

I agree if you do not like it leave it out.. Personally its the flavor of it How about some garlic powder that also would flavor it. * not sure you would like that either..

You could use celery to add crunch, or red or green peppers to add crunch and a little flavor.

Yep, just leave it out.  I concur with all the others.  There is so many other things you can add to it to make it yummy.

Thanks everyone. It probably was for crunch as the vinegar and mustard definitely would overpower anything you add to it, and I halved the vinegar thinking it would help my husband try it (he doesn't like anything vinegar). It still was a very powerful smell. I thought it was delicious though! Since I was the only one who ate it, no one was the wiser about the missing crunch. ;)

This salad has a ton of character.  Leave the shallots/onions out if you don't like them.  I do like the idea of adding other crunchy chopped veggies though!
